About the Scholarship

The fund is established in memory of Emily Victoria Solek, a 2017 graduate of Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, Michigan and a rising senior for Fall 2020 at The University of Michigan’s Ross Business School when she was the victim in a fatal automobile tragedy.

The scholarship was generously funded by over 3,600 people who know Emily, her family and her friends.  In a week’s time, the scholarship fund received substantial funding to create an endowment to last for many years and honor Emily’s legacy of having a zest for life,  a pursuit for joy, and compassion in connecting with individuals.

The purpose of the Emily Victoria Solek Memorial Scholarship Fund is to provide college scholarships to high school graduates of Stoney Creek High School, who plan to further their education with a four-year degree program at a college or university.

The amount of the scholarship may vary based on the income of the endowment fund; the award is expected to be a minimum of $5,000, with a stated award of $8,000 for 2021.

There may be one or two recipients of the scholarship each year; it will be determined based on the qualifications and essays of the applicants, as well as the amount of the income on the endowment fund.
